Welcome!

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

Hi everybody, this is Jared from www.ProfessionalPhotographerTheme.com, and you’ve arrived at the ProPhoto Tips blog. It’s a blog for bloggers–specifically professional photographers who use the ProPhoto theme for WordPress. I’ll be adding lots of posts in the coming days and weeks covering WordPress installation, ProPhoto theme customization, ProPhoto bug fixes, search engine optimization tips and tricks, ProPhoto featured blogs, advanced customizing tips, must-have WordPress plugins, lots of screencast video tutorials, and much more.

I’m also hoping this will be a community gathering hub for ProPhoto users and me, it’s creator, where we can interact through the comments. So don’t be shy! Comment early and often!

You won’t want to miss any of these tips, so check back often or even better yet, subscribe to my RSS feed right here.

Quick Buck payments all made

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I made all the payments today for people who received a Quick Buck discount code. Thanks Kim, for bugging me about it!

Sorry for the delay, it’s been about two months since I went through my records and made payments.  If anyone thinks their code was used and didn’t get a payment, email me and we’ll figure it out.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, anyone who wants one can get a personal discount code for ProPhoto theme for Photographers.  Everyone who uses your code will get $5 off the theme, and for every person who uses it, I will also send $5 back to you as a thank-you for your referral.

I try to make the payments at the beginnig of every month.

If you have photographer friends and colleagues, or participate in a forum, email me at: sales at netrivet dot com and put “QUICK BUCK” in the subject line and also give me your PayPal email address, and I will send you your own code.

I’ve got a couple people who have earned more than what their blog cost in Quick Buck payments, so it can be quite lucrative! :)

New blog theme coming, need your input!

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Well, I’ve finally managed to clear out enough of my other web projects to focus a bit more on developing some cool new stuff for photographers. I’m beginning to work on a brand new blog theme (template) for photographers that hopefully will be available within 1-2 months.  When it’s ready I’m going to figure out a way to give a significant discount to anyone who has already purchased a theme from me if you’re interested in the new one.

My question to you all is, what kind of stuff would you like to see in a new blog theme?  What design elements do you want?  What new features or functionalities would be cool?  What do you wish your blog had?  Please leave me comments!

Some of the things I’m thinking so far:

  1. A new and different design, still featuring really big images and a prominent bio area, but departing somewhat from the look and feel of ProPhoto.
  2. A theme admin control panel area built into the WordPress admin where you could customize almost every aspect of the theme without ever touching the code through the theme editor.
  3. A built-in contact form
  4. Maybe a simple portfolio feature with a large slideshow for people who wanted to just have a blog and not also have a flash portfolio site

So, what do you think?

WordPress 2.5.1 has been released

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Hey all, you’ll probably start noticing soon that your WordPress blog may start telling you that  there is a new version of WordPress and that you should upgrade.  WordPress just released version 2.5.1.

2.5.1 should fix a bunch of bugs with 2.5, so if you have version 2.5, this will hopefully fix a couple issues, in particular problems with the image uploader.  If you’re still running version 2.3.2 or 2.3.3, then I think this is the version you want to jump on and ugrade to.  2.5 was a major release and was kind of buggy, and this 2.5.1 version is basically the same release just with a bunch of bugs corrected.

HINT:  you can find out which version of WordPress you’re running by scrolling down to the footer of your WordPress admin pages.

So, now that I’m finally telling everyone to upgrade, I do want to tell you to wait just a few more days before upgrading.  Why?

Because, starting this Monday, April 28, I’m going to start posting a bunch of videos and tutorials designed to show you how to safely upgrade WordPress.  I’m going to start with a video on how to backup your database and entire blog, so in case you screw something up, you can be confident you won’t lose anything.  Then, I’m going to have a detailed video tutorial on how to upgrade to the new version.

Why not just post it all today?  Well, frankly, I’m on vacation and I don’t feel like it.  But I’ll do it Monday. ;)

If you’re a WordPress power user, then just go ahead and upgrade.  Otherwise, wait a few days and I’ll have a lot of information here.

Site & email down yesterday

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Hey all, my server was down for most of yesterday.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  I know some of you were trying to use the tutorials.  Also, I didn’t receive emails almost the entire day, and it is probable that some emails were lost.  So, if you emailed me yesterday, I probably didn’t get it.  Send it again, and I’ll get back to you asap.  Sorry!
